EDC Prep Checklist

Back to Pre-Festival Overview · 00 - Trip Overview

Goal: Identify every category of thing to do, buy, and bring before the first gate opens Friday evening. Note: This is broad categories only — specific items and quantities come later.

🔄 Agent Brief (EDC Festival Expert)

This note is being researched by an EDC expert agent. Findings will be added below.

Questions for the Agent

  1. What to buy before Friday: What broad categories of supplies should a couple buy for EDC? Think: hydration, comfort, safety, costumes/PLUR, misc festival gear. What can wait until Thursday's grocery run?
  2. VIP-specific prep: They have VIP passes. What should they know, bring, or do differently because of VIP access?
  3. Shuttle pass logistics: They have a standard shuttle pass. What are the broad things to know about the EDC shuttle system — when to catch it, what to expect, what to bring?
  4. What to bring each night: Broad categories (bag, hydration, layers, ID, etc.) — not a full packing list yet.
  5. What NOT to bring: Common mistakes — what do people regret bringing or wish they'd left at home?
  6. Pre-festival activities: Is Hotel EDC worth attending on Friday May 15? What other pre-festival events should they be aware of?
  7. Health & safety categories: Broad categories to plan for — heat, fatigue, hearing, hydration, etc.

Supply Categories

🛒 Buy at Grocery Store (Thu afternoon errand)

Category Why
Liquid IV / Electrolytes Vegas air + dancing = massive dehydration. 1 per day minimum.
Gallon Water Jugs For the hotel. Don't rely on tiny hotel bottles. Drink before/after the fest.
"Easy-Win" Meals Frozen pizza, pasta, or PB&J for 5:00 AM returns when your brain is mush.
High-Protein Snacks Beef jerky, nuts, protein bars. Keep your energy floor high.
Fresh Fruit Water-rich snacks like melons or oranges are life-savers in the morning.
Wet Wipes / Hand Sanitizer Porta-potties (even VIP ones) run out of supplies by 3 AM.

ðŸ›ï¸ Buy Before Leaving Home OR in Vegas

Category Why
High-Fidelity Earplugs Non-negotiable. Protect your hearing without muffling the music (e.g., Earpiece, Loops).
Portable Power Bank Phone batteries die in the crowd (searching for signal). Bring a 20,000mAh brick.
Phone Tether / Anti-Theft Phone theft is rampant. Use a "Clutch Loop" or similar tether to your bag.
Hydration Pack Camelbak or Lunchbox. Ensure it's clean and the bladder is tested.
Small Hand Fan Even in the low 60s, the middle of the crowd is a furnace.
Pashmina / Light Layer The 5 AM shuttle wait is surprisingly cold (low 60s + desert wind).

🎒 Pack Each Night

Category Notes
ID & Wristband Double-check before leaving the hotel room.
Empty Hydration Pack Must be empty to enter; fill it inside immediately.
Sealed Chapstick/Gum Security often makes you toss open packs. Buy multipacks.
Moleskin / Blister Kit If your feet go, the weekend is over. Pre-tape hotspots.
Sunglasses For the 5 AM "Sunrise Set" walk to the shuttles.

VIP Pass — What It Gets You

  1. The "Holy Grail" (AC Bathrooms): Trailer-style bathrooms with real sinks and air conditioning. This alone is worth the price.
  2. Dedicated Entry: Usually much faster than GA, though security can still be thorough.
  3. VIP Viewing Areas: Elevated platforms at Kinetic Field and Circuit Grounds. Less pushing, better sightlines for those who want to "observe."
  4. VIP Concierge: They have hair-braiding, glitter stations, and sometimes free Wi-Fi (rarely works).
  5. Less Crowded Bars: Shorter lines for drinks and dedicated VIP-only food vendors.

Shuttle Pass — What to Know

  1. Security at the Stop: This is the best part. You clear security before getting on the bus. When you arrive at the speedway, you walk straight in. No second line!
  2. Departure Timing: To avoid the 2-hour wait, aim to be at the shuttle stop by 6:00 PM. If you wait until 8 PM, you'll be in line for a long time.
  3. The Return Struggle: Leaving at 5:30 AM (end of show) means a 1-2 hour shuttle line. If you want to beat the rush, leave the fest by 4:00 AM.
  4. Stay Hydrated in Line: The shuttle lines are in the sun/heat. Bring a "sacrificial" water bottle to drink in line and toss before boarding.

Pre-Festival Events (Fri May 15)

Health & Safety Categories

  1. The "Marathon" Mindset: EDC is 36 hours of dancing. Treat it like an athletic event. Pace your energy on Night 1.
  2. Dust Protection: The Speedway is a desert. Wind kicks up dust. Wear a gaiter or pashmina over your face if it gets windy to avoid "Rave Flu" (actually just dust lung).
  3. Hearing Protection: 100+ dB for 10 hours a night will cause permanent damage. Wear your earplugs 100% of the time you are near a stage.
  4. Check-in Points: Cell service is spotty. Pick a "static" meeting spot at the start of the night (e.g., "The Giant Octopus at 1 AM") in case you get separated.
